Eight Recommendations to Control the Mess

As you look at the cluttered living room, clothes on the floor in the bedroom, endless piles in the storage room or a garage packed so full that no car will fit… the burden can feel consuming and overwhelming. You know changes need to happen but do not know where to begin.

Here are eight recommendations from Zestful Design that can help you start feeling a sense of control over the mess:

  1. Make your bed first thing – this simple act will create order in your bedroom and sets your day off on a positive note.
  2. Empty the dishwasher in the morning – this groundwork allows for easy meal cleanup and keeps dishes from stacking up throughout the day.
  3. Clean as you go – if you wipe up that spill, hang your coat up, pick up that toy then you’ll significantly reduce mess throughout the day.
  4. Do a load of laundry every day – washing clothes regularly keeps the dirty pile from becoming overwhelming. If you live alone, doing laundry on predetermined days is ideal.
  5. Mind the paperwork – open mail when it is delivered, shred paperwork daily because the longer you wait, the harder it becomes.
  6. Never go to bed with a dirty kitchen – set yourself up for success tomorrow by cleaning pots and pans, loading and running the dishwasher and wiping the countertops before bed.
  7. Put clothes away from the day – take time to fold, hang or place in the hamper before climbing into bed.
  8. Plan ahead – pick out your outfit the night before, purchase necessary cleaning products in advance and schedule time with a professional organizer so you can remain successful and feel your burdens lift!
